To our new friends of Surrogacy..

We have made some friends and shared some experiences with several couples doing surrogacy in India, and I just want to offer them some words of encouragement. This can and does work. Don’t give up your dreams of starting a family. I know that a negative is heart-breaking, a real kick in the gut. Lisa and I had many negatives while trying to get her pregnant. We got very lucky in that our first try in India was successful x2 and we wish the same for all those couples that are taking the same route we did to having a happy family. I await the day you all get your positives and I get to read of the joy you feel when it happens. And it will happen for you, I have faith. You all are in our prayers and thoughts. My best to you all.

Babies on Tour!

But first, I was kidding in my last post. I wouldn’t dare put the girls on the bike this early..I was just funnin’…

Lisa took the girls to see the nurse’s in the NICU at Downtown Baptist Hospital, where Lisa used to work.. The nurses in the NICU have been so important to teaching Lisa how to feed, diaper, and just generally care for preemies. Good thing too, because it just dawned on us all the other day, that the girls, by all rights, should not even have been born yet. They weren’t due until early August. Yet here they are, just chillin’ in life. They are growing and gaining weight. And they can be so funny. They can already do something I have never been able to do..the one eyebrow raise..it kills me when they do it..
Anyhoo…I thank all the nurses at the NICU, we really appreciate all you girls do and have done for us..

Here are some new pics of our little peanuts..

She Ain’t Havin’ It…

(Or I’ll kill you if you do!!)

I think I could remove the backrest, mount a cross plate and bolt the twins’ car seats on here. Of course I would never do it, but Lisa, just to be safe, threatened not only my life, but my manhood if I tried. I think Kelsey would love it. But alas, their first ride will have to wait.. lol

Baby Shower in Mississippi

While we were in MS for the 4th of July weekend, my family threw the twins a baby shower. We thank you all so very much for the gifts. Here are a few pictures of the family and some more of the girls.

They have taken over our bed, as they sleep longer in there than they do in their cribs. But we don’t mind as we love snuggling up to them.

A small update..

My apologies for the lack of updates. We have been busy with guests and the girls keep us on our toes. If anyone has any hints to help the girls sleep thru the night sooner, please..do tell in the comments section. The twins and Lisa and I will appreciate it. :)

The girls have been looking so cute in all the outfits that friends and family have given them. The girls have grown to the point that the outfits are fitting much better. I hope to have some more pics up either tomorrow or thursday. Pretty soon they will be big enough to put in the carrier that we received. The kind that fits like a backpack, but on the front. Then I can get some stuff done around the house. Right now our free time is consumed by holding one while we feed the other. On one hand I like the girls being on a different schedule. It means one is calm while the other is fed. But at night, that also means you’re up longer than if they were on the same schedule. Can’t have your cake and eat it too, I’m told.. but regardless of how tiring the girls can be to us, we cherish every moment with them. The faces Kelsey makes are just priceless. And Riley is getting a chubby face, it is too darn cute. Their hair is getting longer, and Lisa is looking for some little clip in bows.

Posts are about to really start kicking in, with more pictures and stories of the girls and their new introduction into life. Lisa has started her new job in Austin, so things are happening and changing quickly. Stay tuned…

Brother, Can you spare some sleep??

Poor Lisa has been deprived of sleep, now that the girls aren’t really on the same schedule anymore, and I’m back at work. I told her to wake me if she needs me, and she does her best not to need me, to let me get some sleep. God Bless her. But my time is coming. She starts her new job on Monday, so now it’ll be my turn to have them on the overnight shift. This suits me pretty well, I’m normally a night owl anyway. GrandMarne has been a huge help with coming over to help and let Lisa get a little sleep. Thanks, Mom!

I find myself making myself go to work. I am enjoying watching the girls grow and discover and look around more. I don’t want to miss anything. I just want to stay home and hang out and play with the girls. I never saw myself having this emotion, but here it is, in all it’s glory.

I miss them so much when I’m at work. I get home and play kissy face with them. They are so cute when they react to a smooch. I think Lisa is going to have withdrawals when she goes to work in Austin.

More pics to come shortly..they went to the Dr. again today, and they can’t believe how well the girls are doing considering they were a bit over 2 months early.

Back from Mississippi…

We got back in around 1130pm last night, and the whole travel long distance with the twins thing…not happenin’ again, anytime soon. They travelled fairly well, they weren’t too cranky, but next time we go, we’re flying.. Almost 12 hours straight in a car, with two little ones..not recommended. It’s not so much the stops, those happen, but when they get cranky, we cannot just take them out of the car seat. Poor Lisa had to turn around in her seat no less than 10 times in the last 45 minutes of our trip to pop a pacifier back in or soothe an unhappy baby. And we understand, 12 hours in a car seat can’t be that comfortable, and you can only sleep so much. I’m sure they got bored and they don’t know what it is to play yet. So we stopped a few times to let them stretch those little legs.

The twins were troopers and everyone fell in love with them in Mississippi. But next time, we fly…

Our many, many thanks to our friends and relatives in Mississippi for the wonderful gifts the girls received at the shower. They are appreciated and we can’t wait for the girls to wear the many beautiful little outfits. Lisa is having a ball with the girls when it comes to their outfits.  The car was packed tight and for a while I wondered if we would get it all home.  Our Thanks again, you all were so generous.

Hope to see you all again soon,

B

PS, Update on Buster and Cody’s reactions to the babies being at home:

Buster loves it..flat out loves it. he has taken on the big brother role and I truly believe he will help keep the girls safe. He watches over them, lays down next to them, alerts us if they are crying. In fact, it’s kind of funny when one girl is in our bedroom and one is in the nursery and they both start crying. Buster runs back and forth between the rooms checking on them..too funny.

Cody…could care less. He gets a little curious at times, but is taking a stand back approach to the girls. We give him some extra love so he doesn’t feel replaced or forgotten.

Made it to Mississippi..

It is 599 miles door to door, and usually takes me about 8 hours with stops…not so with babies..11 hours, 11 damn hours in that car..but the girls did really well, fussing only when they were hungry or needed a diaper change. The family has gone over the moon about the babies..again, i’m beaming with pride.. I found out that my cousins saw us on The Today Show by accident..just kinda walked in the room, looked at the tv and thought “what the hell?”.. I thought it was funny.

Here are some pics of family with the girls.

Getting Bigger, More Active

Well, it had to end sometime :)

The first few weeks, the girls had a pretty easy schedule for us. They would awaken, we would change them, feed them, and they would go back to sleep. Not anymore. Now they want to stay awake and look around a bit. They are keeping their eyes open much more and will lay there in your arms and stare at you. and let me tell ya, it’ll melt your heart. There is something about watching Kelsey and Riley look around with wide eyed wonderment that just brings a smile to my face.

And I love laying in bed with one of them on my chest, snuggled into my neck, sleeping. Hearing them breathe and hiccup, and boy do they hiccup, and dream is just amazing. I would love to know what a baby’s dream is about, because Kelsey becomes a bit vocal. Squeals and grunts abound and it is so cute.

GrandMarne bought us a baby monitor this week and it has come in handy. For a while, I would think I heard one of them waking up and would run into the nursery, only to find them dreaming away. Now I can listen and watch the monitor and know they are fine. Thank you GrandMarne, I was wearing a rut in the floor leading to the nursery. :)

We have been bathing the girls in their little spa tub, with whirlpool action and shower attachment. It is so nice to be able to bathe them so easily with the sprayer. Thanks again Dan and Isa! Kelsey is my tub girl. She loves the warm water and handles the bath like a champ. Riley..not so much..

Riley has become our stubborn baby. She refuses to burp at feedings. Kelsey burps like a co-ed on a drinking binge. But Riley must have some strong emotional attachment to her burps. She saves them like a miser pinches pennies.

We are still learning to adjust schedules and sleeping habits. I’m the worst at it and gripe at Lisa unfairly. She is doing a great job, and it is taking me longer to learn to deal with less sleep, or at least waking up from a sleep. But I’ll get better, I promise.

We are taking the girls to MS to meet my parents this weekend. I think my mom is bouncing off the walls for us to get there. My sister is coming in from Orlando, my brother is coming from Pensacola. I hope Riley and Kelsey are ready to be spoiled. I have a feeling my sister is going to do a number on them. :)

I may not have any new posts till we get to Gulfport, but will have many pictures to post soon after arriving. Stayed tuned and have a safe, happy 4th of July!
