Broken Hearted

It with a broken heart and tear soaked keyboard that I type this.

Today, Sunday Aug. 24th 2008, Kelsey Rahne Switzer left our arms to watch over us as an angel. She is sorely missed, incredibly loved, and will forever be in our hearts and minds.

Kelsey, my beautiful angel, I hope when you left us that you knew how much we love you, how special you are to us, and how we will tell Riley how much you meant to your mother and I. Words cannot express the sorrow and heartbreak we are feeling right now, and will forever more.

I love you,

Kelsey Rahne Switzer

(or “So this is what sleep feels like!!)

The girls are now pretty much sleeping through the night. Lisa has discovered the secret, and I’ve been told that we are cheating. In the last bottle of the night, around midnight, we put some baby rice cereal in with their formula, along with some Karo syrup. Apparently, the rice cereal takes a bit longer to digest, giving the girls that “full tummy” feeling for a bit longer than just formula would.

If it’s cheating, then we are cheaters. If it’s a smart way to get some sleep at night and keep the girls content, then we are Mensa candidates. All I know is that life has become a bit easier as the girls are happier at night.

Now, during the day, not so much. Lisa has been dealing with babies that have no patience when it comes to being held or not being held. I have found that swaddling them tightly still works wonders, and Kelsey loves her swing. Riley loves the horseshoe shaped pillow that we set on the couch. They stare at the window for hours. We have dark curtains, so the contrast really holds their attention.

Kelsey is the swinger (clean minds, folks, clean minds) and Riley is our bouncer. She loves to be bounced on a knee. Yesterday at lunch I was playing kissing face with Kelsey and she gave me the biggest grin. She smiled with her whole face, her eyes were smiling too. Just brightened my day. Riley tried to one up her about 5am this morning as she bounced on my knee while being burped. What a way to wake up.

I have some pictures to post up this evening, so look out for those.

And please help me settle a debate. Leave me a comment with your opinion.
Are we cheating by adding the rice cereal, or are we being smart and making sure everyone is rested, thereby lowering frustration levels?

Congratulations to the Mikes!!

Mike A and Mike B are a gay couple that have been struggling for years to start a family through adoption. When all was said and done, they went the surrogacy route in India and lo and behold, first try, they get 2 women knocked up!!

I’m straight and haven’t pulled that one off!! So now we wait to see how many lil ones they can expect. We love the Mikes and you can catch up on their happy story here…

Here you can read how the Mike’s determined that to a man a cup is not only male protection, but male reception as

Please go wish them congratulations. They have had as tough a road as anyone on their journey to start a family. Way to go Mike and Mike!

I had a conversation about communication from India with Michele Butler last night and I shared some info that may be of interest to others travelling abroad for any length of time.

Skype is a program for your computer that allows you to make phone calls using a headset. Skype can be used to call other PC’s that have Skype installed, or if you purchase a subscription, you can call any cell or landline phone in the US and many other countries.

I can’t access the exact details from work, but basically it goes like this.
The cost for a subscription to make unlimited outgoing calls from Skype to any cell or landline phone runs around the $10 – $13 (per month) mark. That gives you unlimited calls back to the US to any phone. However, should you want to receive calls, you can subscribe to SkypeIn for about $18 (for a 3 month subscription) more and get a phone number that anyone can call from the US (and other countries, I’m sure) and it will ring on your computer, as if your computer was your phone. I can attest that Lisa and I used SkypeOut to call back to the States. We were there a combined total of 1 month, and all our calls (the calls can include video if the call is PC to PC) were a total of the $13.

Look into Skype folks, it will save you money. Just ask my cell phone bill..

Hello Stranger!

So let me just start by apologizing for not posting near as much as my husband. For the last couple of weeks I have been trying to adjust to the babies, a new job and all sorts of other daily life situations that have come up. Things are starting to have some semblance of order but we have a long way to go baby!

We have been very lucky with my mom helping me wade through the obstacles of twins and getting errands done and she and Larry have been a God send for baby sitting when the need arises. There is always so much to do and yet even when I make progress I get sent back to steps when I look at my house that has not seen a completely clean day since we got home from Mumbai.

We had to go to the lab today for bloodwork on the girls, the unfortunate part of being preemies is that the red blood cell count has to be monitored or they can become anemic. So off we went and the girls just looked so precious in thier new outfits from Uncle Mike and Aunt Liz that I had to snap off some pictures with my cell. I did them in B&W and Sepia, just cause I could and although I love them that way, Brian thinks its too “Artsy”.  I will let yall decide.

Many people have asked about the Today Show follow up, and right now it is on hold because of the Olympics and the Elections. The latest word is that we may be invited back in the late fall. So everyone keep your fingers crossed and we will keep you posted.

For those of you interested in Planet Hospital and Surrogacy I will be happy to answer any of your questions. Just post up and we will get back to you with all the info. I must say for the record that I will never recommend Lilavati’s Program nor the other Medical Tourism company  that promotes that nightmare. I know that several of our surrogacy friends are using them and I respect that but Lilavati tried to take my girls from me and threatened to make them wards of the hospital and the adoption system. They did this under the guise that they believed we might be trying to take Indian children illegally out of the country. The truth is that the 2 head administrators of the hospital were trying to use us as pawns in a very political situation. Because Indian Surrogacy is in the world wide spotlight, some people are trying to grab the power that goes with it. Had it not been for Planet Hospital, Dr. Allahbadia and especially the US Consulate, we would still be there fighting for our girls in my opinion.

On a lighter note, here are my ARTSY pictures of the girls. I hope you enjoy!
